ARC

Arc is the “Valley of Death” transition team for the Spark Division that aims to support all of AFWERX by identifying barriers to transition and building a plan to overcome those barriers in a consistent and scalable way.

About

The Arc Team was created in the Spring of 2023 to help AFWERX partners transition across the Acquisition “Valley of Death.” Arc aims to do this by deeply analyzing the largest barriers to transition its customers face and build a plan to mitigate or eliminate each of those barriers with its partners. Arc plans to overcome each barrier by developing “tools in a toolkit” that are applicable to a partner’s specific acquisition journey.

Barriers to Transition

Airmen, Guardians, small businesses, and Technical Points of Contact (TPOCs) lack the experience and expertise to fulfill DoD/DAF-mandated processes. These required processes many times become barriers to new technology entering the DoD. By developing organic competency for each of these barriers, the Arc team aims to shepherd technologies across the “valley of death” and successfully transition them into capabilities.

Now

Outlines how The Biden Administration will advance America’s vital interests, outmaneuver geopolitical competitors, tackle shared challenges, and set our world on a path toward a brighter and more hopeful tomorrow.

Future

Arc will target the other barriers of the “4 horsemen of the Transition Apocalypse” such as Frequency Spectrum Management, Airworthiness Certification, and Human Subject Research. Other potential barriers include operational test, contracting, fiscal alignment, and functional advocacy.

The process for obtaining a cybersecurity authority to operate (ATO) on a DAF network
The process for approving equipment to operate on electro-magnetic frequencies.
The process for certifying DAF aircraft and associated equipment as safe/worthy to fly
The process for approving the use of human subject data and research (health metrics, fitness metrics, biometrics, etc) within the DAF
